The Nagant Revolver is a seven-shot, gas-seal revolver we have for sale, designed and produced by Léon Nagant for the Russian Empire. The design of the revolver is simple and robust. It is chambered for a proprietary cartridge, 7.62×38mmR, and features an unusual "gas-seal" system, in which the cylinder moves forward when the gun is cocked, to close the gap between the cylinder and the barrel, providing a boost to the muzzle speed of the fired projectile thus enabling the weapon to be suppressed. Like most other big name or popular revolvers, the Nagant uses a loading gate, meaning that the spent cartridges have to be extracted and reloaded manually, yielding a very slow reload time.
The “empty” space in the brass neck of the cartridge protrudes into the forcing cone, completing the gas seal. Contrary to popular belief on the internet, this largely pointless feature wasn’t put on the Nagant to allow it to be silenced. But rather, it’s there to improve accuracy and decrease fouling.
When fired in double action mode, the Nagant’s cylinder cams forward so that the mouth of the chamber comes flush with the forcing cone. This greatly closes the cylinder gap. This also happens when the hammer is manually cocked.
As the revolver is cocked, the cylinder advances by 1 chamber, and after that is completed, the entire cylinder is moved forward to activate the sealing system in the barrel-cylinder area. The Nagant revolver is a robust and dependable weapon, beloved by those who use it. Nagant’s design utilized a cartridge with the bullet sunk into the body of the case, allowing the head of the cartridge to be pushed forward into the barrel as the revolver was fully cocked. The Nagants had been involved in the development of several revolvers for countries including Argentina and the Ottoman Empire
